Welcome Home, Shanice!

For seven long years, Shanice fought to find a permanent home. Despite working consistently—holding the same job for five years—she struggled to find an affordable place to live. With five beautiful children and her mother depending on her, she did everything in her power to provide, even when the odds were stacked against her.

Shanice’s story is one of resilience. She never gave up. Even when faced with impossible choices, she found a way to keep moving forward. For years, motels became her family’s shelter. When money ran out, she leaned on family, and when there was nowhere left to turn, her car became their refuge. But through every hardship, she held onto faith.

“God told me not to give up because I had five beautiful blessings that needed me,” Shanice says.

One of the most difficult seasons of her life came when her youngest son was born ten weeks early. His tiny body fought for survival as he spent two months in the hospital. At one point, he had to be rushed to Atlanta for emergency surgery. Shanice, already carrying the weight of keeping her family housed, was now faced with the fear of losing her baby. The emotional and financial burden became too much, and she lost the ability to pay for the motel they had been staying in. With nowhere to turn, she and her children slept in her car.

But even then, she refused to lose hope.

After years of uncertainty, Shanice and her children have finally been placed in a home by the housing authority. The long journey of instability has led to a place where her family can finally put down roots. Because four walls and a roof over your head don’t make it a home.

Recognizing her perseverance, a McKinney-Vento Program Coordinator nominated Shanice for support. The McKinney-Vento Act ensures that children and youth experiencing homelessness have access to education and resources, but sometimes, a family needs more than just services—they need a home and more than just home essentials.

At Rooted Interiors, we believe that every family deserves a space that nurtures them, a home filled with warmth and dignity. It’s not just about furniture—anyone can place a bed in a bedroom and a sofa in a living room—it’s about creating comfort, restoring peace, and giving families like Shanice’s a fresh start through the power of design.

Shanice, we celebrate your strength. Your story is one of unwavering love, faith, and perseverance. And now, as you walk into your beautifully designed home, we pray it is filled with the same warmth and resilience that has carried you through every storm.

Welcome home Shanice and family. 💚
